HAWAI'I ASSOCATION OF SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS
PARENTING COMMUNITY BOARD
ALIKA'I is an ʻŌlelo Hawai'i word for leadership. The course content presents leadership development in parent education for those with children with disabilities through multiculturalism, conflicts, and communication barriers. The intent is meant to provoke thought, conversation, and to help families identify barriers in their communities, within their families, and individually that are main contributors to the disharmony we may all be facing. This curriculum was developed in the field and developed through an artistic representation of how Dr. Harold T. Ames perceived the Hawai'i Nation's struggles towards self-determinism, self-identity, and how implied perceptions can ultimately be devastating.
Attendees should consider their sensitivity to culturally significant language, their response to provocative art, and open to discussing those contributors directly at the core of disharmony through an educational format. Intensive family therapy is also provided through Mind Body Care by health insurance plan or cash pay.
This will be a 12 week under study of how the language of our lands is a healing property to bring participants into the present tense.
